Step 1) Find the total footprint square footage of the area you will be estimating. This will include the living area, gable ends, garage (the inside of garage doors radiates a lot of heat into the garage and is an excellent candidate for LO/MIT-I), porches, outdoor sheds and barns, etc.
Step 2) Find the pitch of your particular roof over each footprint area and multiply each area by the appropriate slope multiplier from the table above. Add areas to determine an estimated total square footage for your application.
